President Vladimir Putin replaced the governor of the Smolensk region, the corresponding decree is published on the Kremlin website.
Vasily Anokhin has been appointed as acting head of the region. His predecessor Alexei Ostrovsky resigned of his own accord, the decree says. From 2012 to 2015, Ostrovsky served as acting head of the region, and after — the governor.
Until 2018, Anokhin was Ostrovsky's deputy, since March 2020 he served as deputy head of the secretariat of Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin, and in 2021 1999, he headed the department of regional development of the government.
On March 15, Putin also appointed the acting head of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Vladislav Kuznetsov, who had previously been the first deputy chairman of the government of the self-proclaimed LPR and vice-governor of the Kurgan region.
