The premiere of Renault's new three-row crossover is scheduled for March 28, the manufacturer himself, as expected, has shared only a few teasers so far. Recall that the French are positioning this car as the Espace of the next, sixth generation: they say that the model is transformed from a minivan into a full-fledged SUV (the MPV itself will be retired without a direct heir). Meanwhile, the appearance of the SUV is no longer a secret, in addition, the main introductory information is known: images and dimensions appeared on the Worldscoop forum.

Renault is still not talking about it, but the Espace crossover is not a completely original development — it was based on the five-seater Renault Austral, which debuted last year (it will replace the Kadjar model). Curiously, pictures of a commercial three-row SUV showed up in the owner's manual… that's right, Australia. The latter, by the way, is built on the CMF C/D “trolley”, and the third generation Nissan Qashqai is also based on it. jpg» />Judging by the images from the manual, Renault Espace will have the original grille with vertical wedges and its own front bumper. The optics are generally the same as the original cross. Inside, the upcoming SUV will also repeat the donor, not counting, of course, the presence of a third row of seats. At the same time, the new cross will also be available in a five-seater version.

The length of the Renault Espace is 4720 mm, which is 210 mm more than the Austral. The width of the three-row version is 1830 mm (+5 mm), the height is increased by 27 mm to 1645 mm. The wheelbase was also stretched — 2740 mm versus 2667 mm for the model with a passenger compartment for five. For comparison, the dimensions of the outgoing minivan Espace: 4857/1888/1677 mm, the distance between the axles is 2884 mm.

The elongated SUV, most likely, also shared the technology with its younger brother, that is, in Europe both SUVs will only be available with electrified installations based on gasoline engines. The mild-hybrid Renault Austral has a 1.2 turbocharger and a 48-volt Mild Hybrid Advanced starter-alternator, or a 1.3 turbo-four and a 12-volt Mild Hybrid starter-alternator. In the first case, the turbo engine produces 130 hp, such an Austral is equipped exclusively with a manual gearbox. The 1.3T engine has two power options: with “mechanics” — 140 hp, with an X-Tronic variator — 160 hp. The top short crossover is offered in the form of a full-fledged E-Tech hybrid with a 1.2 turbo engine and a 1.7 kWh battery operating at 400 volts; total return — 200 hp Renault Austral comes with front or all-wheel drive.
