«Yandex.Music» removed the «Unbuttoned» and «Rainbow» podcasts about queer culture and LGBTQ life

The Yandex.Music streaming service has removed the podcasts Narapashka and Raduzhny, which talk about Russian queer culture and the life of the LGBTQ community. Information about this is published in the podcast telegram channels.

«"Yandex.Music" deleted our podcast. They didn't even send a letter about it. This has been expected since the adoption of the new homophobic law, but it’s still unpleasant, ”the authors of Wide Unbutton write.

The fact that the blocking“ was expected ”was also reported on the Raduzhny telegram channel. “I want everyone who is responsible for this to present a teenager in a small town without any support, surrounded by aggression and propaganda. You, the people who make laws, and you, the companies that remove content, fearing fines, are destroying the future of this person,” the creators of the podcast added.

In December 2022, Vladimir Putin signed a law banning “LGBTQ — propaganda.» Innovations include fines for the broadcast of «materials that promote non-traditional sexual relations» in advertising, cinema and the media, as well as blocking such content.

After that, massive blocking of content about the life of the LGBTQ community began. In January, the anonymous telegram channel “Direct Action Actions” called for complaints to be sent to websites that talk about LGBTQ people. Among the Internet resources that users should have complained about, the podcast «Unbuttoned» was also mentioned. In February, it became known about the removal of six LGBTQ-themed podcasts from the Yandex.Music platform.
