The Moscow Bolshoi Theater has canceled screenings of the ballet A Hero of Our Time, staged by choreographer Yuri Possokhov to music by Ilya Demutsky and libretto by Kirill Serebrennikov. This is stated in the telegram channel of the theater.
The reasons for the cancellation of the ballet are not specified. Instead of «A Hero of Our Time» on May 5, 6 and 7, Edward Clug's production of «The Master and Margarita» will be shown. Tickets will remain valid, the theater stressed.
Serebrennikov himself commented on the change in the poster with a quote from Bulgagov's The Master and Margarita: «Schizophrenia, as it was said.»
A Hero of Our Time was shown for the first time at the Bolshoi Theater in 2015, after the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Lermontov. The following year, the production received the Golden Mask award in three categories, including Best Performance in Ballet.
In March last year, the Bolshoi Theater already removed the ballet from the show. Later, the production was returned, while removing Serebrennikov's name from the list of authors. Mentions of Posokhov and Demutsky remained on the site.
