Norway advises officials not to install TikTok and Telegram

MURMANSK, Mar 21 The Ministry of Justice and Public Security recommends that officials refuse to install TikTok and Telegram on official devices for security reasons, the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom said in a statement.
In early March, the Department of Justice and Public Safety reportedly asked the Department of Homeland Security to evaluate whether measures or recommendations should be put in place regarding the use of TikTok and Telegram on office devices. On Monday, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Emilia Enger Mehl, received an assessment of the safety of these applications.

«The FDA believes that TikTok or Telegram should not be installed on government employees' business devices that are connected to an organization's internal digital infrastructure or services,» the statement said.

The agency believes that this recommendation should also apply to private sector employees who are wholly or partly subject to the security law.
“Minister of Justice and Public Security Emilia Enger Mehl supports the recommendation of the department. This also means that political leadership and employees of ministries and organizations subordinate to them are not recommended to have Tiktok and Telegram on official devices,” the ministry added.
If there is an official need for TikTok or Telegram, NSM recommends that you install and use the app on a separate device designed for that purpose and not connected to the organization's internal systems.

«Therefore, everyone who uses social networks should know what information they share and what settings they have on their mobile phones,» Mel said.
The British government has previously banned its officials from using China's TikTok app on official mobile phones, and a similar ban has been introduced in a number of US states. The decision to suspend the use of TikTok on corporate devices «for security reasons» was also taken by the European Commission, the European Parliament and the EU Council. Canada has said it will investigate TikTok's privacy concerns.
