Future rival Kia EV9: the first image of the crossover Peugeot e-5008

An all-electric version of the French brand's seven-seater SUV is expected to be introduced in 2025.

The history of the Peugeot 5008 started in 2009: initially it was a mid-size MPV. But in 2017, during the generation change, the model became a crossover, and it survived restyling in 2020. SUV sales figures in the European market have been falling since 2019. According to the Carsalesbase website, in the first 11 months of last year (data for the whole year are not yet available), dealers sold 33,057 copies: this result is 33.5% less than in January-November 2021. Now the French manufacturer is developing a new generation Peugeot 5008.

Despite the fact that the document, which should finally approve the full transition of Europe to the development and production of electric vehicles in 2035, is now openly not welcomed by many automakers (including the auto giant Stellantis, which owns the Peugeot brand), the “locomotive of progress” has already been launched, so companies are not slowing down in greening their product lines.

It is known that all new models of the brand will have fully electric versions. Among them is the flagship Peugeot 5008 of the next generation: the “green” version will receive a prefix in the form of a capital letter “e” to the index. There is no official information about what such a modification will look like yet.

It is expected that the design of the Peugeot e-5008 will differ from the “5008th” with an internal combustion engine (Kolesa.ru previously published a render of the future crossover). On the render, the exterior of the «battery» version is drawn in accordance with the brand's new corporate design, which was demonstrated using the Peugeot Inception concept (its presentation was held as part of the CES exhibition in Las Vegas in early January 2023); by the way, later in Peugeot they were generous with teasers of future new products of the brand, designed in the appropriate style.

Judging by the image, the new electric crossover of the French brand can get embossed stampings on the hood and sidewalls, as well as an “off-road” plastic body kit made of unpainted plastic around the perimeter of the body. At the front, attention is drawn to the head optics of a new form: it received six angled LED “fangs” (three on each side). The headlights are visually connected by a plug, which is located in the place of the traditional grille. It is «adorned» with three thin horizontal lines that converge in the center — where the new Peugeot logo is located. Probably, the feed of the electric version will not differ much from the version with the internal combustion engine, except perhaps the absence of exhaust pipes.

There are no images of the interior of the future novelty yet. It is assumed that the Peugeot e-5008 will have a digital instrument panel and a large touchscreen infotainment system in the cabin. The model will receive modifications designed for five and seven riders (with two and three rows of seats, respectively). The trunk volume should be the same as the ICE version.

According to preliminary data, the Peugeot e-5008 electric crossover will share the new STLA Medium platform with the future e-3008. It is likely that it will have versions with front and all-wheel drive, in the first case, the power of the electric motor will be 180 hp, in the second, the total output of the power plant may be 300 hp. Presumably, the models will offer a pair of traction batteries to choose from — with a capacity of 70 and 87 kWh. The maximum range on a single charge is likely to be up to 500 km.

The next generation Peugeot 5008 is expected to debut in 2024, while the e-5008 version will have to wait until 2025. The Kia EV9 crossover is tipped as a competitor: the appearance and interior of the production version of the “Korean” were declassified last week.
