UFA, March 21 Investigating authorities have detained two members of an organized criminal group from Ukraine, who 26 years ago shot dead a traffic police officer in Orenburg, who became an accidental witness to the murder, the SUSK RF reported on Orenburg region.
“So, on March 5, 1997, in a utility room near a residential building on Gazovikov Street in the city of Orenburg, the body of a traffic police officer of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Orenburg Region was found with signs of a criminal death in the form of two gunshot wounds to the head. At the time of the murder, the police officer was in uniform,” says in the message.
It is noted that the crime remained unsolved for a long time, however, thanks to well-planned operational and investigative measures carried out by investigators and forensic specialists of the regional investigation department together with employees of the criminal investigation department of the police, it was established that three citizens of Ukraine, who arrived in the city at that time, were involved in the murder Orenburg for robberies.
According to investigators, on the night of March 4, 1997, two members of an organized crime group in one of the apartments of a residential building killed the third member of their criminal gang. When the men were carrying the body out of the apartment, they were seen by a traffic police officer. «After the accomplices were caught at the scene of the crime, they fired shots at the police officer, killing him, after which they moved the body of the victim to the utility room,» the regional investigator reports.
The department added that after 26 years, the operational-search activities carried out not only established the participants in the murder of a police officer, but also the identity of the murdered member of the criminal group, as well as his burial place in the forest belt near the Kachkarsky Mar ecopark in Orenburg.
«The arrest of one of the malefactors was made on the territory of the city of Moscow, where the latter was hiding after committing the crime. Two of the members of the criminal group were detained and taken into custody, including its leader. They are charged with attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer and murder committed by an organized group. Necessary investigative actions are being taken to establish all the circumstances of the crime committed. In addition, the accused are being checked for involvement in other unsolved crimes,» the Orenburg Region Investigative Committee said.
