The replacement will be an all-electric SUV based on Stellaantis' STLA Medium modular platform.
The history of the Opel Grandland crossover started back in 2017: then the model still had an increase in the form of the letter “X” to the name. In the summer of 2021, the model underwent restyling and, during the update, changed its appearance, received a different platform (EMP2) and at the same time lost the very X. Last fall, a “warmed up” version of the hybrid SUV – Grandland GSe – was presented with its own design features, a reconfigured suspension, but standard equipment.

Recall that the Opel brand, as well as its British «twin» Vauxhall, belong to Stellantis. Today, the auto giant said that the successor to the Opel Grandland will appear in the second half of 2024, its role will be played by an all-electric crossover. The manufacturer has not yet declassified its name, it is possible that, by analogy with other recent models, it will receive the name Grandland Electric. » />
It is known that the novelty will be based on the STLA Medium modular platform; the first-born on this “trolley” will be the “green” Peugeot e-3008 crossover, which should debut later this year (we previously published a render of the future SUV). Opel is keeping the technology of the Grandland's successor under wraps for the time being, but it is possible that it will also share it with its French «relative».

Again, there is no exact data on the «stuffing» of the electric «3008th» yet. It is expected that the model will have versions with both a single electric motor located on the front axle and options with a twin-engine power plant. According to preliminary data, the return will vary from 180 to 300 hp. It is known that models on this platform will have a maximum range on a single charge of up to 700 km. p>Stellantis said that the production of the new Opel will be launched in the same place where the current Grandland is now being produced — at a plant in Eisenach (Thuringia, Germany). The auto giant spoke about investments in the amount of 130 million euros: the funds will be used to modernize this site and prepare it for the release of a new completely “green” SUV.

As it became known earlier, Opel is going to sell only fully electric models in Europe from 2028. So the announced «green» successor Grandland will join the lineup of Opel Corsa Electric, Mokka Electric, Astra Electric, and there is also a tiny Opel Rocks Electric, which is the «twin» of the French Citroën Ami quadricycle.
On last week it became known that Stellantis may build a battery plant and begin production of compact electric vehicles in Spain. We are talking about those, which will be based on the STLA Small platform. So far, the issue remains under discussion, however, if an appropriate agreement is reached with the Spanish government, the novelties will probably be put on the conveyor in 2025.
