MOSCOW, Mar 25 Doctor Lev Averbakh told Sport24 that Olympic ice dancing champion Roman Kostomarov may not survive unless his liver is urgently saved.
On Friday, Channel Five reported that Kostomarov's liver problems are due to a large number of medications.
“
“Unless urgent measures are taken to save the liver, it will be almost impossible for the patient to survive. <…> The situation is very difficult. Because the kidneys usually fail with the liver — it’s very difficult to get out with such a set, ”the doctor noted.
The specialist explained the reasons for the former skater’s serious illness.
“
“Kostomarov had an individual reaction to the virus against the background of weakened immunity. This case is one in a hundred thousand. There are a lot of questions about the causes of such complications, but in a simple way, this is how the individual reaction of the body is expressed. Due to a strong and athletic body, the novel lasts a long time. An unsportsmanlike person would not have lasted so long. Roughly speaking, it's like an allergy, an individual reaction of the immune system to external factors,» Averbakh said.
Kostomarov is 46 years old, he is the Olympic champion of Turin (2006). Also, the Russian has two gold medals at the World Championships and three at the European Championships.
