MOSCOW, 23 Mar . Writer Jeff Wilson has accused Netflix of borrowing the plot and characters for the Outer Banks series from his book Queen Anne's Revenge, writes TMZ.
In his opinion, the projects have too much in common to write off everything as a coincidence.
Wilson's novel was released in 2013. It tells the story of four friends looking for treasure at a shipwreck. The author says, writes TMZ, citing documents found in the media, that his book was promoted by Discovery and the History Channel.
Wilson also claims that the creators of Outer Banks allegedly admitted to relying on other books and authors for inspiration.
He is going to defend copyright in court. Wilson wants the streaming giant to pay him out of the company's profits from his work. He also advocates for Netflix to ban the distribution and promotion of Outer Banks.
Wilson is not the first to accuse the company and the makers of Outer Banks of borrowing the plot. Writer Kevin Wooten has already filed a lawsuit against the service and the authors of the show. He stated that they used his 2016 book. But the lawsuit was rejected — the judge did not find sufficient similarities between the projects.
Earlier it was reported that the family comedy «Cheburashka» has collected more than a million views in the online cinema.
