MOSCOW, Mar 27The Russian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation has published photographs from the place of death of the world's first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
RGANTD specified in its Telegram channel that it had shown these pictures for the first time. The published footage shows a fragment of the fuselage of the MiG-15 training fighter, on which the pilot flew.
The tragedy occurred on March 27, 1968. On the morning of that day, Yuri Gagarin and instructor, front-line pilot Vladimir Seregin, took off in a MiG-15 UTI training fighter from the Chkalovsky airfield in the Moscow region. A few minutes later, Gagarin reported on the exercise, after which he received permission to return to the airfield. The exact causes of the plane crash are still unknown.
