ZURICH, Mar 27 The leadership of the Swedish Armed Forces has banned its employees from using the TikTok app on official phones and tablets, Agence France-Presse reports citing the department's press service.
«The use of mobile phones and tablets can itself be a security risk, so we don't want TikTok on our work equipment,» Guna Graufeldt, spokeswoman for the Swedish Armed Forces, said in a statement.
The decision was reportedly based on «publicly available information about how the app handles user information and the company's actions- owner of ByteDance».
Last week, the Norwegian Ministry of Justice and Public Security advised officials to stop installing TikTok and Telegram on their official devices for security reasons. Before that, it became known that the Danish Ministry of Defense banned ministry employees from using the Chinese TikTok application on official mobile phones and other devices.
The British government has previously banned officials from using China's TikTok app on official mobile phones. A similar ban on the use of TikTok on official mobile phones of government employees has been adopted in the UK, New Zealand and several US states. The decision to suspend the use of TikTok on corporate devices «for security reasons» was also taken by the European Commission, the European Parliament and the EU Council.
