According to the results of 2022, interest on government loans that Russia issued to governments of other states and legal entities turned out to be significantly lower than expected.
Instead of 48.68 billion rubles, only 11.13 billion rubles were received from foreign borrowers, RBC reports on Friday, citing materials from the Ministry of Finance. The authenticity of the document was confirmed to the publication by a source familiar with its content.
At the same time, in 2021, Russia's interest income on such loans amounted to more than 52 billion rubles, in 2020 — 64 billion.
The Treasury reported that the low performance in 2022 was caused by non-receipt of payments from foreign borrowers due to «imposed sanctions restrictions.»
In February last year, the US Treasury imposed a ban on transactions with the Russian Central Bank, the Ministry of Finance and the National Fund welfare. Similar measures were soon introduced by the European Union.
