KHABAROVSK, March 27 primaries of «United Russia» and elections of the mayor of the regional center, said Governor Mikhail Degtyarev.
The head of the region met with the mayor of Khabarovsk Sergey Kravchuk. The parties discussed preparations for the 2023 election campaign. This year, on a single voting day on September 10, residents of the regional center will have to choose a mayor for the next five years.
«The election campaign must be legal, transparent and competitive. A conscientious approach must also be observed when holding primaries from the United Russia political party, of which Sergei Kravchuk is a member. The regional government will provide comprehensive support for organizing both primaries and and the election of the mayor of the city itself. So that everyone who has the opportunity to speak out does it. The one for whom the majority of Khabarovsk citizens vote should win,» Degtyarev wrote in his Telegram channel after the meeting.
Last November, Nikolai Nagorny, head of the city public relations and media department, said that the decision on how best to choose the heads of cities — by direct expression of will or through a competition with the participation of city deputies — should be entrusted to people, this position is also held by mayor.
As the governor spoke on a direct line at the end of December 2022, he, «like a Khabarovsk citizen», stands for direct elections of the mayor.
Direct elections in the capitals of Russian regions, with the exception of federal cities — Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sevastopol — remained in Khabarovsk, Anadyr, Abakan, Yakutsk and Ulan-Ude. In Novosibirsk, on February 20, the Legislative Assembly of the region adopted in two readings a bill on amendments to the local law, which provides for the abolition of direct elections of mayors of Novosibirsk and the science city of Koltsovo.
