Hiperon Fosslin: Malaysian BMW X6 Hydrogen-Electric Competitor

Malaysian startup Hiperon Motors (not to be confused with American startup Hyperion Motors) has unveiled its second model, the Fosslin coupe crossover that will be offered with electric and hydrogen power plants to choose from. Small-scale production of the Hiperon Fosslin should begin this year.

In 2021, Hiperon Motors introduced an electric one-ton Carrier van with a very interesting design, developed by the Polish studio One One Lab. Then we didn’t even know where Hiperon Motors comes from and who is behind it, now there is still little information, but at least it is known that the company is based in Malaysia, engineering work is carried out mainly in the USA, and design, as it is already clear, is European. For the Carrier van, which so far exists only in the form of renders, the Malaysian company is now accepting pre-orders and promises to show the production version in the third quarter of this year. The main sales markets are Asia, Europe and North America. Recently, Hiperon Motors has published renderings of its second model, the Fosslin coupe crossover.

The name Fosslin is formed from the merger of two Norwegian words — Foss (waterfall) and Lyn (lightning). In terms of dimensions and proportions of the body, the Fosslin is close to the BMW X6: the overall length of the Malaysian crossover is 4880 mm, the width is 1990 mm, the height is 1689 mm, the wheelbase is 2950 mm. Fosslin is based on the original skateboard platform, and the power plant can be electric or hydrogen-electric, that is, in the first case, electric motors take energy only from the battery, and in the second case, an electrochemical generator and hydrogen cylinders are added to the system.

Hiperon Motors claims that the electric and hydrogen versions will have the same performance, with a maximum output of 487 hp. and 670 Nm, acceleration to 100 km/h takes 5 s, top speed — 260 km/h. The battery capacity of the electric version is 90 kWh, its full charge is enough for 450 km (which cycle is not specified). Curb weight — 2485 kg. The layout of the hydrogen version is not presented on the company's website.

The Hiperon Fosslin, like the Carrier van, was designed by One One Lab. The interior render does not show the dashboard in any way, but there is a projection screen, the steering wheel is made in the form of an inverted yoke, a 17-inch multimedia screen with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is integrated into the center console, and individual temperature controls are visible on the door cards.
