The leadership of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology will oblige students to learn Chinese so that they can «read technical documentation.» The press service of the university reported this to Vedomosti.
Earlier, the telegram channel “Caution, Moscow” wrote about complaints from MIPT students who were “forced to learn Chinese” instead of Spanish, German and French. The university claims that this is done for practical reasons.
“It is in Chinese that up to 27% of all scientific articles in MIPT’s core areas are currently written, and according to researchers, by 2030 up to half of all technical and engineering documentation will be published in the language of our eastern neighbor” , — Vedomosti was told in the press service of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.
The Ministry of Education last summer reported that about 22,000 Russian students are studying Chinese. In autumn, RUDN University Rector Oleg Yastrebov said that Chinese became the third most popular foreign language at the university after English and Spanish.
