Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov promised that Russia would voluntarily notify about ballistic missile launches
The 1988 ICBM and Submarine Ballistic Missile (SLBM) Test Launch Notification Agreement remains in effect .
This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov.
“Of course, we said this,” he stressed.
Ryabkov explained that there were all types of information exchanges, as well as other elements of verification activities provided for by the START, have been suspended. However, Moscow will voluntarily adhere to the quantitative restrictions established by the treaty.
The diplomat noted that he is not yet ready to comment on whether there are types of launches that fall under the START agreement, but not under the 1988 treaty. He promised to consult with experts.
Earlier, Sergei Ryabkov said that in the current situation he sees no prospects for negotiations with Washington on strategic offensive weapons.
