He recalled that back in the 1970s, the USSR was into the top three «composite» countries, but then they had a niche application.
«Our strategy includes the task of entering 5 more competencies at the same level. To enter the top manufacturers of the global, planetary level. Without a doubt, the list of these competencies is headed by composites. It is in this direction that we plan to enter the top global manufacturers to 2029-2030,” he added.
Compared to conventional structural materials (aluminum, steel and others), carbon fiber composites have uniquely high strength, fatigue resistance, chemical and corrosion resistance. Composite materials are used in the aerospace and nuclear industries, in the automotive industry, electric power industry, construction, shipbuilding, bridge building, pipeline transport, and consumer goods.
Rosatom is the leader in carbon fiber production in Russia and the only company in the country that has established the chain of production of composites based on it — from raw materials to finished products.
