Gerashchenko was sentenced on March 29 — he was sentenced to five years in a colony-settlement. According to investigators, even before the announcement of mobilization, on September 13, the man did not show up for work after his vacation. Until January 31, he «spent time at his own discretion,» and then voluntarily appeared at the military commandant's office. He was also convicted under the article on leaving the military unit (parts 3 and 5 of Article 337 of the Criminal Code).
Gerashchenko himself claimed that in May 2022 his mother died, which is why his father became addicted to alcohol. While on vacation, a serviceman found out about a relative's addiction and stayed with him, wanting to protect him from alcohol abuse. During this time, Gerashchenko lived with his father.
