The Tushinsky District Court of Moscow suspended the work of the Anglo-American School for 90 days, where children of diplomats and foreign businessmen study. The decision was published on the website of the court.
In total, on March 31, the court considered two protocols against the school under the article on violation of the requirements for educational activities (parts 1 and 3 of article 19.20 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).
Only one of the cases was issued a decision. At the same time, both parts of Article 19.20 of the Code of Administrative Offenses provide for a stoppage of work for up to 90 days.
The decision says that during the audit on February 28, the prosecutor's office of the Northwestern District had claims to the education documents of 18 school employees. Most of them, according to the department, did not undergo «legalization and translation» of foreign diplomas in the prescribed manner.
The prosecutor's office also indicated that the school «does not have and (or) has not developed additional general education programs being implemented» for all years of study — from junior groups to grade 12.
Representatives of the school in court asked to dismiss the case and said that they «took actions aimed at fulfilling license requirements.»
English The American School was founded in 1949 by the governments of the United States, Great Britain and Canada. The campus is located next to the Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo park and the Canal. Moscow. The cost of education per year for the year varies from 21 to 36 thousand dollars.
In 2019, the Russian Foreign Ministry denied visas to 30 school teachers. This was explained by the fact that the teachers went to Russia as employees of the embassy with diplomatic passports, although «the school operates as a commercial enterprise.»
In the summer of 2022, a former school teacher was sentenced to 14 years in prison because of marijuana and cannabis oil vape cartridges found in his luggage.
A similar Anglo-American school was also in Petersburg, but it closed in 2018. Officials did not renew their lease on the building in Tatarsky Lane, which the school had occupied since 1975.
