MOSCOW, April 4Thai Pattavicorn Bunin has won a 2,000 baht (about $60) prize in the state lottery using a set of numbers generated by ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Thaiger reported.
Bunin shared his success story on social media, stating that he won the prize thanks to the numbers 57, 27, 29 and 99 offered by ChatGPT. The two-digit winning number announced that day was 99.
“Time to start praying to robots!” the lottery winner wrote in a post on his page. His post quickly caught the attention of Thailand's gambling community, receiving thousands of comments. While some were excited about the prospect of using ChatGPT to generate winning lottery numbers, others were skeptical.
Bunin also said that he directly asked ChatGPT what the winning numbers would be, but ChatGPT replied that it was «unpredictable and depends on luck.» The chatbot even advised him to «stop playing the lottery and start exercising.» However, the Thai resident did not give up and tried to ask the chatbot again in a different way. He entered hypothetical situations along with historical statistics of winning numbers over the past ten years, and the chatbot gave him the calculation formula and numbers.
According to the portal, experts have not yet given a clear explanation of how ChatGPT can provide winning numbers, but many Thai netizens are looking forward to waiting for the next numbers generated by the bot. They want to know if Bunin's success was a fluke, or if ChatGPT can actually predict lottery results.
ChatGPT gained popularity after launching in late November 2022, reaching its first million users in less than a week. His imitation of the conversation provoked speculation that he could crowd out professional writers and even become a threat to Google's core search business. The bot belongs to OpenAI, one of the founders of which is Elon Musk.
