The court sentenced photographer Mumrikov to one and a half years of forced labor in the case of his friend's failed anti-war action

The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor musician and photographer Grigory Mumrikov, accused in the case of a failed rally with yellow-blue smoke on Red Square. This was reported by a Mediazona correspondent from the courtroom.

Mumrikov was found guilty of attempted hooliganism committed by a group of people motivated by ideological hatred (Part 2 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code with the application of Part 3 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code). On March 29, during the debate, the prosecution asked to appoint him four years in prison. Until the verdict enters into force, he will remain under arrest.

The case of Mumrikov is connected with the action, which was planned to be held on May 9, 2022 by his acquaintance, the artist Danila Tkachenko. During the president's speech at the Victory Parade, he wanted to activate the flares with yellow and blue smoke, which were installed in a house on Tverskaya Street, adjacent to the State Duma building. Tkachenko was going to do this remotely — before the action, he left Russia.

Mumrikov, according to investigators, bought paint to mask fireworks and «evaluated the location» for the action. In May 2022, he was sent to a pre-trial detention center. Prior to this, the court arrested the photographer for ten days under the protocol on petty hooliganism (Article 20.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses), the security forces claimed that he swore in a public place. In August, his preventive measure was changed to house arrest.

Mumrikov did not admit his guilt in the case — according to him, he had nothing to do with the preparation of the action. SOTA wrote that the witnesses in the photographer’s case were cleaning workers who noticed wires and boxes in Tkachenko’s rented apartment. At the same time, the women never saw or communicated with Mumrikov.

The investigation found Mumrikov's fingerprint on one of the cans in Tkachenko's apartment. “How was I supposed to take it with one finger? <…> The spray can that I bought is still with me,” the photographer commented.

According to Mumrikov, the prosecution has no evidence that he was in the apartment from which his friend planned to stage an action . The photographer called himself “apolitical” and added that he never went to rallies and was not a member of opposition channels.

“What Tkachenko wanted to do is complete nonsense. For me, the holiday of May 9 remains holy. He just tried to take away our holiday. I would like to see how this coward is in the dock. He just ran away and dumped everything on an innocent person. <…> Reading the materials of the case, I did not understand what my role is? The prosecution did not voice my role,” Mumrikov said at one of the court sessions.
