Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said what he meant by the phrase «there is not long to wait», uttered in a recent interview about Russia's relations with the United States.

In a recent commentary to Russia-1 TV channel, Lavrov said that Russia and the United States are «in the hot phase of the war,» but pointed out the importance of maintaining relations between Moscow and Washington. According to Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Ministry expects that «the Americans will wake up to reason.» The minister uttered the phrase «Let's see, there is not long to wait.»

During a press conference following the talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Lavrov clarified his statements. «I meant that the truth will prevail anyway,» the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Lavrov added that the word «not for long» can describe different time periods, especially «in historical terms.»
