MOSCOW, April 6 The position of the Constitutional Court on The death penalty, taking into account the changed international situation, can be clarified, said Oleg Morozov, a deputy of the State Duma from United Russia.
Earlier, the leader of «Fair Russia — For the Truth» Sergei Mironov appealed to the Chairman of the Constitutional Court Valery Zorkin with a request to reconsider the position on the death penalty, Mironov's press service reported.
«Taking into account the changed international situation, the degradation of the international legal system, the position of the Constitutional Court of 2009 can, in my opinion, be clarified,» Morozov said.
He added that the decision depends on public opinion and political will.
«This decision depends on two things: on the opinion of the society, which, I'm sure, is for it, and on the political will of those who will make this decision. Everything else is secondary and can be decided,» he said.
The parliamentarian stressed that the constitution does not contain a «direct ban on the death penalty».
