Kazan activist arrested for eight days for restoring a memorial in memory of those who died during the shelling of the Dnieper in January

The Vakhitovsky District Court of Kazan arrested activist Mark Serov for eight days in the case of organizing an uncoordinated rally. SOTA reports this.

Serov was found guilty of holding a public event without filing a notice (Part 2 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). An administrative case was brought against the activist because he restored a memorial in memory of the victims of the shelling of the Ukrainian city of Dnipro January 14. The memorial itself was located near the monument to victims of political repression.

On January 28, Serov laid flowers, photographs, soft toys and candles at the monument, after which he gave an interview to RusNews. According to Idel.Realii, the security forces decided that since Serov did not give the Kazan authorities a notice of plans to restore the memorial, his actions violated the law on holding public events.

On April 6, Serov's house was searched — according to preliminary information, investigative actions were carried out as part of a case of vandalism motivated by political hatred (Part 2 of Article 214 of the Criminal Code).

SOTA wrote that the reason for the case was the graffiti «No to war» and some negative statements about Vladimir Putin. After the search, the activist was not given any documents about the criminal case.

On the same day, Serov was brought to the Yapeev OP, after which a protocol was drawn up against him on violation of the “rally” legislation. He spent the night of April 6-7 at the police station.
