MOSCOW, Apr 8 The US did not revise relations with Saudi Arabia, despite a promise to do so after last year's OPEC+ decision to cut oil production, according to the American newspaper Politico.
According to the publication, after OPEC + cut oil production last year, the US administration «promised to review the state of US-Saudi relations.» US President Joe Biden even threatened «consequences» for the kingdom, the newspaper noted.
«After many months, there were no consequences or shifts,» the article says.
The publication noted that CIA chief William Burns even made a surprise visit to Saudi Arabia this week to confirm close intelligence ties between Washington and Riyadh.
In early October 2022, the countries participating in the OPEC+ deal, led by Saudi Arabia and Russia, decided to reduce oil production by two million barrels per day, starting in November, extending the deal until the end of 2023. Biden, as well as a number of other prominent members of the Democratic Party, expressed disappointment at this, noting that Washington is considering various options for how to proceed. The White House charged that members of the OPEC+ group sided with Russia in making this decision.
