The Wagner PMC mercenary who fled to Norway was detained in Sweden; he went there to buy cheap cigarettes

Former member of PMC Wagner Andrei Medvedev, who fled Russia and asked for political asylum in Norway, was placed in a migration prison in the Swedish city of Gothenburg. This is reported by human rights activists Gulagu.net.

According to them, Medvedev, having heard that cigarettes are cheaper in Sweden than in Norway, left Oslo for Gothenburg in early April, wanting to save money and travel a little. After shopping, he missed the bus back to Norway and decided to follow the road on foot. He was seen by Swedish law enforcement officers, questioned about what had happened and detained. Later, since he did not have a residence permit, the man was placed in a migration prison “until all the circumstances were clarified.”

The reason for this was that Medvedev violated the conditions of stay. Since he applied for political asylum in Norway, he was not legally allowed to leave the country until his application was considered. The man himself said that he did not know anything about this restriction and now he is very sorry.

In a conversation with Gulagu.net, he said that the conditions in the prison are good: there is Internet access, he can also communicate with friends and family by phone. At the same time, Medvedev suggested that he could potentially have conflicts with Kurdish refugees, “who clearly have a negative attitude towards Wagner PMCs.”

Medvedev's escape to Norway in January was reported by the human rights project Gulagu.net. Medvedev told TV 2 reporters that he had crossed the Titovka checkpoint in the Murmansk region using someone else's passport, and then crossed over the ice of the Paz River to the other side while he was pursued by border guards.

In Norway, a former mercenary said that the Wagner PMC had a special unit that was responsible for the execution of refuseniks, deserters and captured Ukrainians. Medvedev claimed that the prisoner Yevgeny Nuzhin also fought under his command, who, after returning from captivity, was executed in front of the camera, having smashed his head with a sledgehammer.

In February, information appeared that a criminal case had been opened against Medvedev in Norway. According to investigators, on the night of February 22, he drank and got into a fight on the street with a man at the Andy's Pub bar in Oslo. After the arrest, when he was taken out of the service car, Medvedev «resisted and kicked one or more employees.» After that, he was released by filing charges under three criminal articles.

The ex-mercenary was kept in a safe house, but after he complained about the conditions at the end of January, he was transferred to the migration center for several days. Medvedev himself then believed that he was going to be deported to Russia, and revenge from the Wagner PMC awaited him in his homeland. «mz-publish-context-cite__image» alt=»1″ />ArticleLucky ride on a boat and were not allowed to drink milk.
