MOSCOW, Apr 9 Syrian air defense systems shot down several Israeli missiles, the Ministry of Defense of the Arab Republic reported on social networks.
Air defense, according to the military, managed to shoot down some of the missiles launched by the IDF from the Golan Heights at a number of points in southern Syria.
Israeli shelling began at about 5.00 local time (coincides with Moscow time). At the same time, the attack led to «material losses» on the Syrian side.
The Israeli army said early on Sunday morning that it opened artillery fire on Syria in response to missile launches on the Golan Heights. A total of three rockets were launched, two of which reached Israel. One of them fell in an open area, and the second was shot down by missile defense systems.
This is the second rocket attack on Israeli territory from Syria in several hours.
In recent days, the security situation in Israel worsened amid continued terrorist attacks, rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, as well as the turbulent situation on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, where regularly clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Friday evening the car rammed a group of people on the Tel Aviv embankment near Jaffa, the driver was neutralized. The Israeli Foreign Ministry called the attack a terrorist attack. As a result, a young man, who turned out to be an Italian tourist, died, and seven more people were injured. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the police and the army to mobilize reservists after the attack.
