In the Tver region, the person involved in the case of an attempt to join the Legion «Freedom of Russia» was sent for compulsory treatment

The Zubtsovsky District Court of the Tver Region sent a local resident, Sergei Kolin, to compulsory treatment due to «mental illness» and released him from criminal liability in the case of an attempt to leave to fight in Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the court, OVD-Info drew attention to the publication.

According to the materials of the court, Colin, in correspondence with «unidentified persons», agreed to join the Freedom of Russia Legion, “received a plan for illegally crossing the border in order to arrive” in Ukraine, where he was going to fight against the Russian army. According to the press service, his actions were stopped by officers of the FSB department for the Tver region on May 3 last year (part 1 of article 30, part 2 of article 208 of the Criminal Code).

The court also noted that since February 24, 2022, Kolin, who was in the village of Pogoreleye Gorodishche, in his Telegram channel and YouTube streams “expressed support for the Ukrainian side”, “expressed hostility towards the citizens of Russia” and expressed “negative attitude towards the leadership of the Russian Federation and authorities.»

On March 16, the court took into account the conclusion of a forensic psychiatric examination and concluded that Colin had committed “illegal acts in a state of insanity” and needed treatment in a psychiatric hospital. Prior to this, the man was under arrest.

At the end of March, according to OVD-Info, Andrey Trofimov, a defendant in cases of military «fake» and incitement to extremism (Articles 207.3 of the Criminal Code and 280 of the Criminal Code), reported from SIZO-1 in the Tver Region that he was charged with an attempt to join the Legion «Freedom of Russia» (part 1 of article 30, part 2 of article 208 of the Criminal Code), and also told about other defendants in the detention center. In the letter, he called Colin a trash streamer and the author of the Kupala TV YouTube channel (it is now unavailable, as well as Kolin's Telegram channel).

According to Trofimov, Kolin spoke out in support of Ukraine and lived there for some time. The author of the letter added that “provocateurs and bogus witnesses” appeared in Colin’s case, and after the arrest, the man was “carried in the trunk.”
