MOSCOW, April 12/Prime.The Moskvich automobile plant launched the production of cars practically from scratch and in record time — in less than six months, the former owner of the production site, the Renault auto concern, leaving the Russian Federation, left neither technologies, nor design documentation, nor components that should ensure production, said in interview with the general director of the automobile plant Dmitry Pronin.
«We managed to launch production in record time — less than six months. The «legacy» that remained after Renault, to put it mildly, is no good. The former owner left neither technology, nor design documentation, nor components at the plant , which should ensure production. Therefore, we started the production of cars at the plant practically from scratch,» he said, answering a question about the equipment left over from Renault.
“We are often told “yes, you didn’t do anything yourself”, “yes, you just assemble cars.” At the moment, the plant is assembling from ready-made car kits. But our main task was to keep the work of people who are employed at the plant, and in the shortest deadlines to start production from scratch. The fastest thing to do is to launch a SKD, this is the way we went,» the top manager explained.
Pronin also stressed that already this year it is planned to increase the level of localization of cars produced at the plant. At the same time, in 2025, Moskvich intends to develop its own, completely unique electric vehicle platform.
The Moskvich car plant is located on the site of the former Renault Russia plant, which the French automaker Renault, which stopped working in the Russian Federation, handed over to the Moscow government in May 2022. Sales of brand cars started in January in Moscow and St. Petersburg, and are now available in 25 Russian cities. Now there are two models in the brand line: the Moskvich 3 urban crossover and the Moskvich 3e electric car.
