MOSCOW, April 12 Extending the life of the Russian segment of the International Space Station until 2028 inclusive will allow not to interrupt the already planned scientific research in space and then smoothly move on to work at the Russian orbital station, said the lecturer of the Russian society «Knowledge», Hero of Russia, pilot-cosmonaut Andrey Borisenko on Cosmonautics Day.
Earlier, Roskosmos reported that proposals had been sent to the Russian government to extend the life of the Russian Segment of the International Space Station until 2028 inclusive. Prior to this, the decision to extend the operation of the station until 2030 had already been made by all other project partners.
«There are proposals from the Roscosmos corporation to extend the operation of the Russian segment on the ISS until 2028. If the technical condition of the segment allows this, in my opinion, this is the right decision. It will allow not to interrupt the already planned scientific research in space and then smoothly move on to work at the Russian orbital station,» Borisenko said.
According to him, the commissioning of the new station, in turn, «will give our country a certain independence» in space research. An orbit different from the ISS, on which the RSS will be built, will make it more convenient for conducting experiments in the interests of the Russian Federation. module of the new station in 2027.
