
PARIS, Apr 10The famous French dancer and choreographer Pierre Lacotte, who staged the ballet «The Pharaoh's Daughter» at the Bolshoi Theater, died at the age of 92 as a result of blood poisoning, Agence France-Presse reported on Monday, citing his wife Ghyslaine Tesmar.
«Our Pierre left us at 4 o'clock in the morning … It's very sad, he still had a lot of projects, and he was writing a book,» Tesmar quoted the agency as saying.
According to her, the choreographer died in a clinic in the south of France as a result of sepsis after the wound became infected.
Pierre Lacotte was born on April 4, 1932. A graduate of the Paris Ballet School, a student of the prima of the imperial theaters Lyubov Yegorova, at the request of his beloved teacher, he decided to focus his talent on the preservation and development of classical ballet. He staged performances for Ekaterina Maksimova, worked in Moscow, Novosibirsk and St. Petersburg.
In 2000 he staged the ballet «The Pharaoh's Daughter» at the Bolshoi Theatre. The choreographer actually recomposed variations and adagios using the classic dance vocabulary of the 19th century. In 2011, Lacotte took part in a gala concert opening the Historical Stage of the Bolshoi Theater after reconstruction. In 2013, he staged a new version of Marco Spada for the theatre.
