The Office of the Investigative Committee for the Omsk Region opened a criminal case over the death of a 45-year-old man beaten by police. This was reported on the website of the department.
The body of a local resident «with multiple bodily injuries» was discovered on April 9 by ambulance doctors in his apartment in Komsomolsk town. According to investigators, three members of the patrol service arrived there on a call and, using special equipment, beat the man, as a result of which he died.
The policemen were charged with abuse of power by a group of persons with the use of violence and special means, which entailed grave consequences (paragraphs «a», «b» and «d» of part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code).
The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region said that on the night of April 9, Omsk's neighbors called the duty unit of the city police department No. 6 and said that he «is in an inadequate condition, a scream and the sounds of breaking glass are heard, and the smell of gas is felt ”.According to the police, the patrol officers saw a drunken man in the apartment “with bodily injuries in the form of cuts on his forearms.” According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, he was holding a piece of glass and a screwdriver and “behaved extremely aggressively, threatened law enforcement officers with murder” and said that he would commit suicide.
The department said that the man “did not react” to the demands of the police, as a result, they used physical force, rubber truncheons and handcuffs on him.
The press release says that the patrol called an ambulance and cut off the gas in the apartment. “When examined by doctors, the detainee continued to behave aggressively, and later his condition worsened. Despite the assistance provided by medical workers, he died,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs concluded.
