MOSCOW, Apr 14 the blockade of the island by Beijing, and not the outbreak of hostilities, Li Chun, deputy foreign minister of the island, told Bloomberg.
Earlier, the head of the US Special Committee on Strategic Competition between the US and China, Mike Gallagher, said that the heads of Apple, Microsoft and other large US companies do not believe that Beijing could allegedly attack Taiwan.
«The blockade is one of the most likely scenarios,» he said in an interview with Bloomberg.
Li Chun noted that such a solution is «very costly and risky for any country,» since the economic blockade could develop into a military clash, and in this case, not only between Taiwan and Beijing, but also between China and other countries. However, at the same time, it is clear that Beijing seeks to «win the war without a real fight,» the deputy minister added.
Lin Chun added that Taiwan is currently cooperating with friendly countries to work out actions in the event of a possible economic blockade by Beijing, the article says.
The situation around Taiwan escalated significantly after a visit to the island in early August last year by then-Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi. China, which considers the island one of its provinces, condemned Pelosi's visit, seeing in this move US support for Taiwanese separatism, and held large-scale military exercises.
