
MOSCOW, April 14 The creation of Russia's first all-electric aircraft engine has begun, which will be used in passenger aircraft and heavy drones, said the chairman of the scientific and technical council of the developer company «Ecolibri» Aleksey Rogozin.
He explained that we are talking about the EM-01 engine, the prototype of the first of a new generation of aircraft engines.
«This type of engines is planned to be used both for the creation of electric passenger aircraft, including vertical takeoff and landing vehicles, and in unmanned vehicles. In addition, we assume that this set of technologies may be further in demand in the automotive and shipbuilding industry,» Rogozin said.
According to Ecolibri specialists, the engine is planned to be certified in accordance with the requirements of the Federal Air Transport Agency and international aviation regulations. The main feature of the EM-01 is an electric drive with direct transmission, which allows to increase the energy characteristics, reliability and service life of the aircraft engine.
“During the development of the engine, duplication and redundancy of all components and the general scheme of the engine are introduced, and almost complete import independence of components is ensured,” the company added. 10 to 200kW to enable aircraft to transport oversized cargo and passengers efficiently and safely.
