PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, April 15 The explosion that occurred during the eruption of the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka destroyed most of its dome, forming a new giant crater, the Institute reported volcanology and seismology FEB RAS.
«There was a directed explosion to the southeast. Most of the construction of the active dome was destroyed. A huge crater with a diameter of more than a kilometer was formed,» the press service of the Institute of Words of volcanologist Yuri Demyanchuk quoted.

The institute noted that they received video data on the consequences of the explosion in the crater on Saturday, after volcano, the weather improved.

“The most powerful fumarolic activity associated with degassing is observed in the crater,” the institute added.
The eruption of the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka began in the early morning of April 11 — the first emissions rose to height up to 20 thousand meters. Several villages in the east of the peninsula were covered with ashes. Residents were advised not to leave their homes unnecessarily. According to scientists, the ashfall in the village of Klyuchi became the strongest in 60 years, where the thickness of the ash layer reached eight centimeters.
