MOSCOW, 14 Apr. Head coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin does not know about the team's refusal to participate in the first Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) championship.
Earlier, the media reported that the team would not take part in the tournament, which will be held in Bishkek and Tashkent from 9 to 21 June.
“Will the Russian team refuse to participate in the CAFA championship? I don’t have any information,” Karpin told the Championship.
CAFA was founded in 2014. The association includes the football federations of Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. According to the organizers' plans, eight national teams will be divided into two groups of four teams each. Matches will be played in a round robin system. Teams that take first place will play in the final. The teams that came second will meet in the match for third place.
