Minister for Environment and Energy Italian Security Council Gilberto Pichetto-Fratin said his country had overcome its dependence on Russian gas in an interview with the Corriere della Sera newspaper. It is reported by TASS.
According to him, earlier the share of Russian gas in Italy's consumption system reached 40%. It has now fallen to just over 10%.
Piketto-Fratin said that pipeline supplies through the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline helped overcome dependence on Russian gas. Also, Italy now receives gas from Algeria and Libya.
“We have essentially overcome dependence on Moscow,” he said.
At the same time, Piketto-Fratin announced the need to receive “ real guarantees”, which will be the receipt of LNG by Italy in the required volumes.
