MOSCOW, Apr 17 At least 30 people were injured during the an express train collided with a freight train in Comilla, Bangladesh, the Daily Star reported, citing local authorities.
According to the newspaper, the incident occurred on Sunday, when the Sonar Bangla Express en route to Dhaka collided with a freight train, causing seven wagons and a locomotive to derail. According to the newspaper, the express was traveling at 70 km/h when it collided with a freight train, causing extensive damage to the carriages.
«At least 30 people were injured, five of them are in serious condition,» Laksham Jashim Uddin Chowdhury, chief of the railway police station, said in a statement.
The cause of the collision has not been officially announced, but according to a railroad spokesman, the newspaper said the station's signaling system was broken and a switch erroneously diverted trains from a line that does not require them to stop at the station, to another way.
