WASHINGTON, Apr 15 American entrepreneur Elon Musk has created Nevada-registered artificial intelligence company X.AI, according to the Wall Street Journal, citing documentation.
«According to state documents, Elon Musk has created a new artificial intelligence company called X.AI, which is registered in Nevada,» the newspaper said.
As the publication notes, according to documents filed last month, Musk is the only company director named, and Jared Birchall, who runs Musk's family investment firm Excession, marked as company secretary.
The newspaper writes that Musk had previously hired Igor Babushkin, a scientist at DeepMind, an artificial intelligence lab owned by Alphabet Corporation. The publication, citing sources, adds that the entrepreneur tried to hire people from OpenAI, but without much success.
On Friday, the Financial Times reported, citing a source, that Musk is developing plans to launch a new artificial intelligence startup that will compete with the OpenAI company that created ChatGPT. According to the paper, Musk-owned Tesla and Twitter are currently assembling a team of AI experts, and the head of the companies is in talks with Tesla and SpaceX investors to raise capital for the startup.
In March, Musk, along with a number of experts in the field of artificial intelligence, signed an open letter in which the authors called for the suspension of the development of AI for at least six months in order to create firm rules for regulating the development and activities of modern AI technologies, since the latter can pose serious risks to society and humanity.
In 2015, Musk co-founded OpenAI, the company that introduced the ChatGPT chatbot in 2022, which generates text similar to human speech. Three years later, he left the company, reportedly due to disagreements within the leadership on the security of artificial intelligence.
