After the outbreak of the Ukrainian conflict, the North Atlantic Alliance changed its strategy from «deterrence through retaliation» to «deterrence by prohibition», the author of the publication shared the details.
According to the article, NATO officials admit that the alliance now there are no forces that could be deployed on the border with the Russian Federation. In theory, the Western military-political bloc can call on 13 corps of 40 to 50 thousand soldiers to participate in the battles. At the same time, they are pondering where it would be beneficial to deploy already trained troops and increase the combat readiness of the alliance's member states.
The most costly conflict in Europe since the Cold War has spurred NATO into a full-scale effort to become a viable military alliance, the material notes.
