MOSCOW, April 16 The government has expanded the territory of the seaport of Pevek in Chukotka, its borders have included new areas of territory and water area near Cape Nagleynyn, where a sea terminal will be built for the shipment of products from the Baimsky Mining and Processing Plant, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.
The corresponding decree was signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

«The borders of the seaport of Pevek in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug will include additional areas of territory and water area near Cape Nagleynyn, where it is planned to build a sea terminal for the shipment of products from the Baimsky Mining and Processing Plant (GOK),» the report says. .

The terminal's capacity will be about 2 million tons of cargo per year. Three quarters of this volume will come from copper concentrate from the Peschanka deposit, which is being developed by mining companies. The commissioning of the terminal is scheduled for 2026.
«The appearance of a new sea terminal in the port of Pevek will contribute to the implementation of the country's year-round Northern Sea Route initiative for the socio-economic development of the country — an increase in the total volume of cargo transportation along the NSR to 150 million tons by 2030,» the Cabinet noted.
At the beginning of March 2023, the government approved the volume of budget investments in the construction of a marine terminal at Cape Nagleynyn. In 2023-2026, they will amount to more than 27.6 billion rubles.
The Northern Sea Route is the shortest water route between the European part of Russia and the Far East. The length of the route from the Kara Gate to Providence Bay is about 5.6 thousand kilometers. At the same time, it is completely located in the territorial waters and the exclusive economic zone of Russia, which is especially important in the face of external sanctions pressure, when the logistics supply chains of products are disrupted.
The Baimskaya gold-copper area is one of the world's largest undeveloped copper deposits with the potential to create a large-scale low-cost production based on an open pit mine. The development of this zone involves the construction of a mining and processing plant and all the necessary infrastructure.
