MOSCOW, April 17 In 2023-2024, solar activity will reach another peak, said Sergei Bogachev, chief researcher at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In an interview with Sputnik radio, he explained how this can affect human health.
The activity of the Sun rises and falls in a certain rhythm, a full cycle of its rise and fall lasts eleven years. These changes happen all the time, and it is easy to predict them, said Sergey Bogachev, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Chief Researcher of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In particular, solar activity will reach maximum values in late 2023 — early 2024, he explained.
“Every eleven years, the Sun goes into a state of high activity — that is, many flares, many magnetic storms. This is a fairly stable cycle, and it is easily predicted. The previous maximum was in 2012-2013, respectively, 2023-2024 should be years of active Sun. Rather, even 2024, according to current forecasts,» Bogachev said.
During periods of high solar activity, the intensity of ultraviolet radiation increases, and people with sensitive skin should take additional protective measures, the physicist continued.
“The atmosphere largely dampens the solar radiation, only a very narrow fraction of the spectrum penetrates here, in particular, ultraviolet, which causes sunburn. During the peak of activity, the level of ultraviolet does not increase very much, by tens of percent — this is the maximum estimate, most often lower. no less, everyone has different skin sensitivities, and precautions must be taken,» Sergey Bogachev warned.
In addition, an increase in the number of magnetic storms and solar flares can negatively affect the well-being of people who react to such phenomena, he believes.
«People who react to magnetic storms and solar flares also need to be more attentive to their health when solar activity peaks. This is not some kind of radical impact, but some deterioration in well-being is possible,» Bogachev specified.
According to him, the peak of solar activity, which is expected in 2023-2024, will not be too high.
«Most scientists predict that the maximum in 2023-2024 will be rather weak, below the historical average,» Sergei Bogachev added in an interview with Sputnik radio.
The cyclical increase in solar activity is the norm, not an anomaly, the physicist emphasized. -1852832611.html» data-title=»A powerful flare occurred on the Sun»>
