MOSCOW, Apr 18 Twitter has changed Canadian broadcaster CBC's label of «69% Government Funded Media».
Earlier, CBC suspended its Twitter activities after the label «government funded media» appeared on one of the corporation's accounts. CBC noted that it is funded by the state, but the decision on the allocation of funds is made by all members of the Parliament of Canada.
«Just trying to be precise. Would they mind if we said they were 70% funded by the government?» — wrote the owner of Twitter, American entrepreneur Elon Musk on the social network, responding to a post that contained information that in 2021-2022 CBC received almost 70% of government funding. Since then, the label has been changed to «media funded by the government by 70%.»
After a while, another Twitter user wrote that Musk should change the label to «media funded by the government at 69%».
«Canadian Broadcasting Corporation said they were 'less than 70% funded by the government' so we fixed the labeling,» Musk tweeted. At this time, the CBC label was changed to «69% government funded media».
The administration of Twitter in 2020 reported that it had begun marking media pages that, in its opinion, are under the control of the authorities, as well as the accounts of the authorities of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, key government officials, including foreign ministers, ambassadors, official representatives and major diplomatic leaders.
