In October 2021, Baldwin, during a rehearsal on the set of the western «Rust», fired a pistol that turned out to be loaded not with blanks, but with live ammunition. As a result, a native of Ukraine, Galina Hutchins, died, director Joel Souza was seriously injured. The actor stated that he did not pull the trigger of the gun from which the cameraman was killed. The shot, according to him, occurred spontaneously.
Variety reported in February that Baldwin pleaded not guilty to manslaughter. Later, the publication reported that a court in the United States allowed Baldwin to continue working in the film. The actor was also allowed to speak to witnesses in his case, including director Joel Souza, but was barred from discussing the shooting.
