The decision was made on 18 April. The case was sent for retrial to the Laishevsky District Court of Tatarstan, which in December 2021 recognized the collection of hadiths as extremist. In the summer of 2022, the Supreme Court of the Republic approved this decision. On August 29, «Sahih al-Bukhari» and two other Islamic works — «The Interpretation of the Holy Quran» with comments by Abd ar-Rahman al-Saadi and the book «Bulug al-Maram» — were included in the list of extremist materials.
The courts in Tatarstan found that the religious texts contain signs of inciting hostility towards non-Muslims. The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, called for the decision to ban works to be cancelled. In particular, he called «Sahih al-Bukhari» «a reliable source of the biography of the Prophet Muhammad» and the second most important book for Muslims after the Koran.
