Economist Felbermayr: adding drugs to the sanctions list would increase pressure from the West
Western countries should extend sanctions against Russia to essential goods, including medicines. Gabriel Felbermeier, head of the Austrian Institute for Economic Research, told Der Spiegel newspaper.
In his opinion, «there are many sectors» that can put «quite a lot of pressure» on Russia. He means the pharmaceutical industry. According to the Austrian economist, the political pressure on the Kremlin would be different if the Russians really did not have enough essential goods. “And not just French champagne,” Felbermeier noted.
The economist admitted that in Russia, during the time of sanctions pressure, they learned to exist under restrictions, respond to their introduction, and even “formed mechanisms to overcome new ones.”< /p>
