The Avtodom Group of Companies announced the closing of a deal to acquire the Russian assets of Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz Rus JSC (official distributor in the Russian Federation), Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Rus plant near Moscow, Mercedes-Benz Bank Rus, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Rus (leasing subsidiary) became the property of the holding and «Mercedes-Benz Capital Rus» (the company was engaged in leasing, factoring and insurance of cars).
The press release notes that Avtodom received the right to carry out maintenance of Mercedes-Benz cars sold on the Russian market , including warranty and post-warranty support, as well as resuming the work of local companies and shipment of spare parts from the central warehouse.
The factory located in Esipovo, which used to make E-Class sedans, GLE, GLC and GLS crossovers, is promised to be restarted, but what cars the company will now produce is not yet reported. They promise to name a new technological partner in the near future, while the Avtodom Group of Companies noted that the most important factor for the holding is the preservation of jobs. According to unofficial data, cars of the Chinese luxury brand Hongqi (“hunts” or “red flag”), which is owned by the FAW concern, can get on the conveyor of the Russian site. By the way, Hongqi has not yet announced its entry into our market.
Recall that the Mercedes plant near Moscow was officially commissioned in 2019. The company stopped working last year after the start of well-known events, the German brand itself then announced its withdrawal from the Russian Federation. At the same time, again, according to unofficial information, the deal with Avtodom implies an option to buy back the Russian assets of Mercedes in the event that sanctions are lifted.
