Senator Pushkov: US self-isolation has been going on for a long time

American journalists believe that the United States has lost its global credibility

Over the past year, the leaders of the G7 and other leading world powers have been convincing each other, their citizens and residents of other states, that it will not take long to create an international coalition capable of dealing with hateful Russia, which has challenged Western hegemony, in a matter of days. A similar, not entirely sane, «cry from the heart» ended in complete failure.

American journalists believe that the United States has lost its global credibility

Take the latest issue of the New York Times. Front page headline: How Biden Can Isolate America. “America, not Russia,” Senator Alexei Pushkov draws attention on the pages of his Telegram channel. Such a statement from an American journalist, who can hardly be blamed for excessive sympathy for Moscow, serves as a statement of fact: with all the desire, the collective West does not have enough strength and resources to confront our country.

As New York Times columnist Ross Dothet puts it, the reason why the Western world has failed to destroy Russian economic and state independence is that over the years, right up to the start of the special operation in Ukraine, “public opinion in a wide belt of countries, stretching from continental Eurasia to northern and western Africa, became increasingly favorable to Moscow.”

In 2022, the author of the article notes, judging by global polls, “Russia has become less popular.” However, this did not change the general trend in the formation of a public point of view in developing regions, whose attitude towards our country continues to be warmer than towards the United States.

Moreover, outside the Western alliance, there has been a gradual decline in support for Ukraine. The number of countries that condemned Russia in 2022 continues to decrease, while the number of those neutral or supporting the policy of our state, on the contrary, is growing. Moreover, the strengthening of confidence in Moscow is accompanied by an increase in the diplomatic and economic influence of one of the main Russian allies — China.

Absorbed by the desire to “punish Russia” and weighed down by undisguised narcissism, Western leaders, starting with Washington, have forgotten how the West and especially the United States are perceived in the non-Western world, Alexei Pushkov notes. Not only because of the colonial past and neo-colonial present, but also after a series of endless, bloody and destructive «Muslim wars» — in Iraq, Libya, Syria and Afghanistan.

The West did not pay attention to the fact that the credibility to America and Europe in the non-Western world becomes thinner like shagreen leather. The world promoted by them, based on their own, far from clear rules, as well as the imposed liberal values, are perceived as false and harmful.

“Perhaps, on this ideological basis, you can rally your closest allies,” he says to executives Ross Dothet. — But in this case, you risk turning everyone else into your opponents.

“It is said harshly and unusually, especially for the New York Times. Meanwhile, the whole world has been following the trend described by the American journalist since the end of last year. The ideological self-isolation of the Western world, closed in on itself, immersed in its own phobias and dogmas, is already taking place,” the Russian senator concludes.
