During a debate in the Seversky City Court of the Tomsk Region, the prosecutor requested three years in prison for 65-year-old human rights activist Marina Novikova, accused of spreading «fake news» about the war (Part 1 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). Her husband Alexander Gavrik told OVD-Info about this.
According to the man, Novikova asked in her last word to assign her a real term, and not a fine, since she would not be able to take an installment plan for its payment.
«I am with Ukraine with all my heart.» The first defendants in the “fake” cases were an ex-employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and a lawyer from the Tomsk region — what do we know about them
The case against Novikova was opened on March 15, 2022 — she became one of the first defendants under the new article. According to investigators, the lawyer “in one of the messengers under the guise of reliable messages published deliberately false information,” which she “allegedly received from eyewitnesses from the scene of the events” in Ukraine.
We are talking about posts in the telegram channel Pravda Goroda Seversk. On February 22, it contained a link to a video by Russian blogger Andrey Karaulov with the title “If Putin attacks, we are finished!”. The channel also published anti-war poems, stories from Kiev residents about the war, and Novikova's video criticizing the authorities.
After the initiation of the case, the court chose a ban on certain actions for the human rights activist as a preventive measure. The pensioner was forbidden to leave Seversk and use the Internet. They were only allowed to communicate by phone with existing customers.
